Breggo Cellars
Please join us Wed. June 17th from5-7pm for our Summer Tasting Series. We are thrilled to be hosting up and coming winemaker Douglas Ian Stewart of Breggo Cellars from California’s Anderson Valley. Chef Charles Hays’ will prepare his always delicious small plates to compliment Stewarts cool climate wines. Price for the tasting is only $20 for food+wine
Stewart will be pouring his:
2007 Gewurztraminer
2007 Savoy Chardonnay
2007 Ferrington Pinot Noir
2007 Savoy Pinot Noir
2007 Donelly Pinot Noir
2008 Pinot Gris
The profound 2007 Chardonnay Savoy Vineyard may be the finest Chardonnay I have ever tasted from Anderson Valley. Honeysuckle, nectarine, lemon oil, and crushed rock characteristics intermixed with a subtle hint of wood emerge from this Chardonnay (primarily made from old Wente clones). Full-bodied, with tremendous substance as well as freshness, it should drink well for 3-4 years. Robert Parker
This is an impressive, up-and-coming operation in the Anderson Valley, and I can’t recommend their wines highly enough. Readers may remember my enthusiastic reviews from last year, and it’s good to see the continued high quality of the 2007s. The three single vineyard Pinot Noirs all enjoy 7-8 cold soaks, aging for 13-14 months in 44%-78% new French oak, and are bottled with neither fining nor filtration. All of them were scheduled to be bottled in early December, 2008. Robert Parker
2007 Breggo Cellars Pinot Noir Savoy Vineyard Anderson Valley
By Josh Raynolds
Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 09
($55) Saturated red. Ripe cherry-vanilla and blackberry on the nose, with complicating notes of cola and black cardamom. Deep in flavor but energetic as well, offering sweet cherry/berry qualities and slow-building floral pastille and herbal elements. Becomes spicier with aeration while gaining sweetness and power. For a rich wine this is strikingly lithe, with excellent finishing spiciness and precision. (JR) 93 points

“One of Italy’s most fashionable winemakers/proprietors, Giorgio Rivetti displays a masterful touch whether he is making Barbera, Moscato d’Asti, or his proprietary red wine Pin.” - Robert Parker, Jr.
“In a little less than a decade, Giorgio Rivetti, co-owner and winemaker of La Spinetta in Barbaresco, has become one of the leading forces in Piedmont. He’s making exciting ripe, fruit-forward Nebbiolos that would give many highly rated New World wines a run for their money. Now he’s making waves in Barolo….Rivetti is first and foremost a winemaker—one of the best and most innovative winemakers in Piedmont today. But he is also in tune with today’s consumer, whom he believes shares his preference for wines that are more approachable on release.” — The Wine Spectator

Schweiger Vineyards on Spring Mountain
Please join us this Thursday April 2nd from 5-8pm for a tasting of Napa Valley’s Schweiger Vineyards. Diana Schweiger will be pouring her Spring Mountain wines paired with Chef Charles Hays’ delicious appetizers.
Diana Schweiger grew up in Sonoma County and remembers the days of visiting her grandparents on the Spring Mountain property before there were vineyards, wineries and a lot of traffic on Spring Mountain Rd.
Schweiger Vineyards is located at a 2,000 ft. elevation at the peak of the Mayacama Mountain range nestled into the heart of St. Helena of the Napa Valley and a part of the Spring Mountain District. These mountains are known for their big rich Cabernet Sauvignon’s and Merlots and the Schweiger family is also successfully producing a fabulous Chardonnay from the grapes grown on their 35 acre estate.
Caring for the land is foremost, and Schweiger Vineyards has been fully sustainable since the early years of 1960. The family planted vines in 1981 and sold their fruit for 10 years until finally forming a winery with the first release of the 1994 vintage! The wines have all maintained powerful 90 point plus scores throughout the years. Get ready to try some of the best that Napa Valley has to offer!

Vin48 is thrilled to be hosting Master Sommelier Brett Zimmerman who will present the wines of Fontanafredda. With one in ten of all Barolo bearing a Fontanafredda label, the estate is synonymous worldwide with wines from the prestigious appellation. Today, Fontanafredda is the single largest contiguous estate in Piemonte with over 275 acres of vineyards in the heart of the Langhe region. Established in 1878 by Count Emanuele Alberto di Mirafiori on the hunting grounds of his father Vittorio Emanuele II, the first king of Italy, Fontanafredda is one of the oldest Barolo estates. Since 1931, it has been owned by the Monte dei Paschi di Siena bank. Alongside this historic legacy, Fontanafredda acknowledges the need to evolve with the international marketplace and has developed a dynamic new vision for the company. Oenologist Danilo Drocco’s masterful management of the interplay between the cellar techniquires and topography, climate, and soil conditions of specific vineyards on the estate has resulted in unprecedented quality. At the cornerstone of Fontanafredda’s prestigious history and its promising future, is the dedication to preserving the character and personality derived from the interaction between variety, environment, and the work of the grower.

Time: The reception will begin at 6:30
Dinner: Seating for 20pp in our private wine room. Five courses paired with Fontanafredda wines. Master Sommelier Brett Zimmerman will be presenting these classic Piemontese wines.

Please join us in our wine bar’s balcony Wed March 4th, at 5:30 to taste through some up and coming Napa wines from High Flyer and Priest Ranch Wines.

Craig Will be pouring His:
2007 High Flyer Viognier
2007 Aviator Red
2006 Priest Ranch Cab Sauv
2006 Priest Ranch Petite Sirah
Craig Becker is a seasoned winemaker and has worked with a wide range of varieties planted at some of California’s top vineyard sites. Driven by a strong interest in soil science Craig attended the University of California at Davis studying enology and viticulture, plant biology and hydrologic science.
He began his winemaking career with Robert Mondavi Oakville, followed by several years at Spring Mountain Estate. In 1999 Craig began consulting for the Peacock Family Vineyards in Napa Valley. This led his consulting or making wine for a handful of other prestigious properties including Starlane Dierberg Vineyard and Winery, Balcom Family Cellars, Dovetail, Kelleher Estate and Coniglio.
It is Craig’s artisan approach to winemaking and his extensive knowledge of viticulture that have allowed him to create superb wines from a wide range of varietals and sites. Craig’s works closely with the viticultural team to create balance in the vines. In the winery, Craig guides rather than manipulates the fruit to capture varietal accuracy and the character of the site

Please stop by our wine bar’s balcony to meet winemaker Rick Moshin of Moshin Vineyards. Rick will be pouring his Russian River Pinot, Sonoma Coast Pinot, Dry creek Zinfandel, and Russian River Chardonnay.
” Rick Moshin’s winemaking philosophy reflects as much of Mother Nature as possible. The naturally low pH in the mature grapes makes balanced, fruit-forward, yet ageable Pinot Noir that pairs beautifully with food. The other varietals we produce come from quality vineyards all over California. The winemaker’s ideal of terroir character is represented in the peppery Zinfandel from Shenandoah Valley, big fruity Syrah from the Central Coast, and well-balanced Chardonnay from Santa Clara County. Every one of our French oak barrels receives hours of individual care and attention from the winemaking staff.”
